Brookfield Show 2025 has concluded with resounding success, setting new benchmarks and showcasing the vibrant spirit of the local community. Held from May 23 to 25 at the Brookfield Showgrounds, the event attracted thousands of visitors and participants, reaffirming its status as Brisbane’s “biggest little country show”.
Whilst it was unfortunate the Horses were rainchecked until 2026 due to the sodden ground, the Dogs were able to take centre stage on the Main Arena instead. They certainly were a star attraction as show-goers could get up close and admire the primmed and primed canines. The petting zoo next door was a fitting placement for all the children to enjoy.
Entertainment Delights All
The roving entertainers walking amongst the crowd set the benchmark higher again this year. From jellyfish on stilts to acrobatic grannies and Tankie the farmer attempting to dry water from his tank! Hilarious and whimsical all rolled into one. Bucking bulls at the rodeo had the crowd in awe whilst the Great Western Show on Saturday was a highlight as horses galloped through fire and the world’s largest bull climbed a truck. Comedic performances during the day such as the horse on motorbike, whip cracking donkeys and the duck slide show were a hit. Fire shows, fireworks, talent quests, local bands and music groups and of course the big family singalong to musical classics was an absolute hit with people young and old. Traditional Arts Truly Alive
Champions were made again with locals taking the crowning glory in Art, Needlecraft, Woodwork, Photography, Cookery, Horticulture, LEGO, Poultry, Talent Show and Dogs! Although everyone was a winner by participating and being able to showcase their talent and keep the creative arts alive at a community level. The Guinea Pigs or Crazy Cavvies as they’re affectionately known were back this year and it was a hoot! The Poultry competition looked flash having moved to their traditional home in the chook pavilion, near Sideshow Alley.
Record-Breaking Cookery Competition
This year’s Cookery competition achieved a historic milestone, with over 600 entries—the highest in the show’s history. Katherine Feeney from the ABC also offered her support by delighting us with her Ginger Cake entry after a 10 year hiatus!
The competition featured a diverse range of categories, from traditional fruit cakes and chutneys to decorated cakes, sweets, jams, and eggs, reflecting the community’s passion for culinary arts. The Cookery Pavilion, named in honour of long-serving Chief Steward Mrs. Daphne Dowdle, was a highlight, drawing visitors eager to admire the exceptional exhibits.
Community Volunteers Make It Happen
The success of the Brookfield Show is a testament to the dedication of over 100 volunteers who generously gave their time and expertise to the not-for-profit Brookfield Show Society. From managing and assisting in the pavilions to Rotary at the gates and parking, these volunteers played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of the show. Their commitment exemplifies the strong sense of community that defines the Brookfield Show.
